ORGANIST & CHORAL ACCOMPANIST

Sook Hyun Kim, organist and pianist, recently joined the music ministry at Mountain Park United Methodist Church as an organist and choral accompanist. Her recent concert engagements include a concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles with The Dream Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Daniel Suk, performing Mahler “Resurrection” Symphony. She also performed at the Haarlem International Organ Festival, St. Bavo Church, Saint Joseph Cathedral in Haarlem, Netherlands, and Saint Thomas Church in Leipzig, Germany, in the summer of 2026.

While she was in Los Angeles, Ms. Kim played a solo organ concert at All Saints Episcopal church in Beverly Hills, sponsored by the Los Angeles AGO chapter, and the Summer organ concert “Harmonic Splendor” at the Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral, playing the magnificent Dobson Organ Op. 75. Also performed as guest organist with LA Opera in the 2022- 2025 season productions, “Moses, ” “Noah’s Flood, ” and “Three Women in Jerusalem, ” under the direction of Maestro James Conlon. Also She was the organist for the Annual Messiah Concert at OLA Cathedral 2022- 2025.

Previous concert engagements include performances throughout Paris as a participant in the International Organ Music Seminar’s French Organ Music Seminar, in which she also participated in the 2017 season. On tour, she performed in masterclasses with Daniel Roth, Yannick Merlin, Gabriel Marghieri, Oliver Fenin and François Espinasse at St. Sulpice, St. Clotilde in Paris, Palace of Versailles, La Madeleine, St. Severin, and St. Ouen in Rouen. In addition, she also toured England with the same group and performed at St. Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Cathedral in London in 2019.

Ms. Kim has performed in master classes most notably with Simon Preston, David Higgs, Christophe Mantoux, and Stefan Engels. Ms. Kim also studied César Franck's major organ works and numerous French organ repertoire at the Princeton University Chapel with Eric Plutz.

As a concert organist, Ms. Kim has performed in many of the major notable venues in the United States, Europe, and Asia, such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Alice Tully Hall in NYC, Jack Singer Concert Hall in Canada,and Emmanuel College in Cambridge, England. Saint Bavo Church in Haarlem, Netherlands; Princeton University, All Saints Church in Beverly Hills, Saint Thomas Church in Leipzig, Germany. Ms. Kim was appointed the organist for the Annual Christmas Concert at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., in 2013 and 2014, which were broadcast nationally on EWTN. She also participated in the International Keyboard Institute and Festival at the Mannes College of Music in NYC for many years. She has also extensively collaborated with numerous chamber groups, brass ensembles, and soloists as a pianist and accompanist. Ms. Kim's previous organ positions include Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral in Los Angeles, Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Lambertville, NJ, Redeemer Presbyterian Church in NYC, Nassau Presbyterian Church in Princeton, Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church in Basking Ridge, and the Trinity School in Pawling, NY.

Ms. Kim holds a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder, a Master of Sacred Music degree from the Catholic University of America, and completed the two-year Professional Studies Program at the Juilliard School in New York City. She studied organ with John Weaver, Jeremy Filsell, and Elizabeth Farr, and organ improvisation with Gerre Hancock. She has also studied piano with Robert Spillman and Nina Linchuck, and conducting under Leo Nestor. She is the recipient of the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 Magi Carrigan Scholarship from the Catholic University of America and is the 2014 recipient of the Nancy Bannister Scholarship from the National Association of Pastoral Musicians.
