JOIN US IN CELEBRATING THE BIRTH
OF THE CHURCH!

The word “Pentecost” literally means “50" as it acknowledges the 50 days after the Resurrection event and the celebration of the Holy Spirit (the power and presence of God) being poured out on the disciples of Jesus, which then equipped and empowered them to fulfill and live into building the Kingdom of God through transforming relationships and communities, also known as “the church.” Pentecost celebrates the birth of the church as the movement of God manifesting and growing throughout the world both then and now.

The season of Pentecost lasts for the rest of the year until late November or early December for the Advent and Christmas seasons to begin the new church year! Over the course of the next several months, we will explore various themes and topics to guide our emphases of worship, discipleship, and service. To kick off this season, we have a dedicated series about the nature, power, and role of the Holy Spirit in our lives of faith.

You can learn more about our upcoming worship series for the first part of the Pentecost season below!

WHAT DOES The Season of PENTECOST 2022 LOOK LIKE AT MOUNTAIN PARK UMC?

After the Easter season, we celebrate Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit filled God’s people. The Holy Spirit is still leading and guiding us through the wildernesses of our lives just as the Spirit led the people of Israel in the wilderness. A fresh new wind of the Spirit blew upon the Church on the day of Pentecost just as it was prophesied in Joel 2:28, “I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. The Church received power on that day to become Jesus’ “witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” The Holy Spirit builds up the body of Christ by filling us with the characteristics of God for the work of ministry. During our series, we look at how the gift and power of the Holy Spirit draws us together to be the church for a broken, hurting world.

You can see the outline of our Pentecost worship series below:
