On April 12, 1964 eleven Christians gathered with a vision of planting a Methodist church in the Stone Mountain Area. This church, much like the mountain would be a place of God’s majesty and glory. Hence the seeds of Mountain Park UMC were sown in the Stone Mountain area and these eleven people invested in the vision which was birthed from their heart.

We  have an opportunity to invest in the vision those 11 Christians planted and that investment will last to each subsequent generation as we praise God’s deeds and share God’s mighty acts in the world.

The Legacy fund was established to ensure the continuity and financial viability of Mountain Park UMC. It allows for the vision of the 11 founding members of Mountain Park to be realized, that upon this most sacred and safe place, our church will remain  “a light on a hill” for all people to see and be served in our community and the world.

What we believe:

We believe that God has not only called us but has also equipped us to live into our current mission:

“connectING our communitIES with Jesus to transform lives.”

Our strategy and vision for embodying this mission to its fullness involves the following:

  • We GATHER to build Christian Community.

  • We GROW to become more faithful followers of Jesus.

  • We GO to serve and love all people in Jesus’ name.

With this vision, we faithfully strive in “Living Jesus. Loving Community.

TESTIMONIALS

“My family and I moved to Mountain Park when I became the pastor in 1971. I found here a small group of dedicated and loyal people who wanted to see their church grow and become a strong influence in the community.

This small congregation understood that the church was supposed to serve rather than to be served. A history of mission was established, and that emphasis has grown ever since. From supporting the local Co-Op to feeding hungry children through Lunches of Love, to establishing ministries in Kenya and Honduras and our support of the Methodist University in Africa. Mountain Park has become a leader among congregations in local, national, and world outreach. Suffering humanity around the world has been and will continue to be touched by Mountain Park UMC. The world is better because we are here.

It was my high honor and privilege to have been the Pastor of this great church for nine years. After serving nineteen additional years at other appointments, we retired and returned to Mountain Park. I have great hopes and confidence in what lies ahead for this church.”

“We joined Mountain Park UMC in 1977. Over the years, we have been truly blessed to be members of such a loving and caring church. We know, in a time of need, there will always be a congregation praying for us. We believe in the future of MPUMC and the opportunities the Legacy Fund will make possisble. Thank you, Mountain Park, for being our brothers and sisters in Christ.”

We visited MPUMC shortly after moving to Lilburn in 1984.  Based on the welcome we received by the church, and especially The Seekers SS Class, we joined MPUMC shortly after that first visit.  We are so blessed to have such a loving church family which has nourished us and our family throughout these many years.  I’ve always felt that MPUMC is one of those “Thousand Points of Light” places.  We believe God has many wonderful plans for MPUMC, both now and in the future.  To help with that future,  we feel the “MPUMC Legacy Fund” would help assure whatever fine works God has planned for our church.

How does the Legacy Fund work?

Legacy Fund donations are tax-deductible and can be any amount given beyond normal tithes and offering. Your donation of cash, life insurance policies, publicly traded securities, gifts in your will, retirement plan assets, stocks and bonds, saving bonds or real property are one of the many ways you can donate in an effort to ensure ministry stability here at Mountain Park, currently and in the future. The principal balance of the legacy fund will remain invested with the earnings from the fund being used as needed for ministry expenses or capital improvements.
